Where do your fish come from?

Citarella sources fresh seafood globally through our relationships with generations of fishermen. They come straight from the Fulton Fish Market into the hands of our expert fishmongers in our nearby facility. For more information about our logistics, check out our freshness page!

Will my food stay fresh? How is my order shipped?

Your order is hand selected by our fishmongers, cleaned, dressed and carefully wrapped in wax paper and plastic. We carefully package your fresh items in an insulated box, together with cold packs right in our refrigerated facility. Our cold packs are reusable! Just throw them in the freezer for a picnic day.

The package is then shipped overnight so the items get to you in peak condition. Once it is shipped, we will email you a confirmation with a tracking number to keep an eye on your order. Our sturdy packaging has been tested extensively, and will keep your order fresh for the duration of shipment.

Our overnight orders require signature on delivery. Please arrange for someone to receive the order when it arrives. Refrigerate items immediately to maintain freshness. We ship all perishable items Overnight to arrive by 12pm. For more storage and preparation tips, please consult our guide.

I live close to your store... are there delivery and pickup options?

In the New York, we offer local delivery to your home or office for a fee of $15 to select zip codes within Manhattan, and a personal shopping service of $8.

Personal shopping is available in all of our stores, along with catering services. Our friendly customer service staff will shop your order, the personal shopping service of $8.

We are currently offering deliveries to our neighbors in the Hamptons on Tuesdays & Fridays.
We offer curbside pickup from 10am to 11am as well as 3pm to 4pm daily at all three Hamptons locations.

Please ask one of our associates for complete details regarding, current availability, delivery areas and fees.
There is a $8 personal shopping fee and $25 delivery for Hamptons local grocery orders.
Hamptons delivery orders require a $250 minimum purchase.
Fees may vary for catering orders as well as distance of delivery destination, ask an associate for more information.

Will you ship to a PO Box?

No. A person must be at the address to refrigerate the perishables when they arrive. This will ensure the best flavor!

What are your shipping delivery days?

You can place an order to be shipped every day. We make deliveries Tuesday - Saturday. For Saturday delivery, there will be a $25 additional charge. During the holiday season, we may experience high volume, so check our website for updated order deadlines.

Do you ship on national holidays?

Orders that ship can’t be delivered on national holidays, however we can ship your order to arrive close to a holiday. To make sure your order is received on time, please consider opting for delivery on the days leading up to the holiday. Customer service will assist you in selecting the best day you can ship.

How much am I paying for shipping?

For overnight delivery of our fresh seafood, we offer flat rate shipping options based on delivery destination zone, regardless of weight.

When shipping our gifts, each item is shipped based on its own rate. The shipping charges are determined by the weight of the order (including all packaging needed to maintain freshness) and size of box. We’ve conducted vigorous testing to maintain the freshness and quality while offering the best shipping value. Our perishable gifts require overnight shipping. Our non-perishable gifts can be sent, ground or you may choose an expedited option. These rates and charges are determined by the shipping company. Each of our gifts indicate if they are perishable or non-perishable and also if free ground shipping is included.

If a gift card is an add-on item to your order of fresh seafood or with one of our gift baskets, the gift card will be included at no additional shipping charge. When ordering only a gift card, it can be sent ground or you may choose an expedited option. These rates and charges are determined by the shipping company.

When ordering a copy of the Joe Knows Fish cookbook, it can be sent ground or you may choose an expedited option. These rates and charges are determined by the shipping company.

How far in advance can I place my order?

You can place you order 30 days prior to you delivery. Once your order is placed, you will be charged immediately at checkout.

I want my seafood! How do I pay?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. For more details, please visit our shipping policy page.

What is your privacy policy?

Your personal information is safe with Citarella. We’ve been in the business over a hundred years, and we value our customers’ privacy. We never share your information. We use Symantec (formerly VeriSign) to secure your payment details against third parties.

What if there is a problem with my order?

If the product arrives damaged, or if you have any other issues with your order, please contact us immediately at help@citarella.com or 212-874-0383. Save all boxes and packing materials and keep the product refrigerated if appropriate. Photos would be helpful in resolving any problems. Do NOT send it back to us- our customer service staff will work with you until you are 100% satisfied.

I loved your seafood! Can you ship your other delicious gourmet cuisine as well?

Thank you for your patronage! Our online selection is only a small part of the Citarella experience, and we do ship other items on a regular basis.

If you have your eye on a particular seasonal cheese or our silky olive oils, please contact our customer service by phone to arrange your order. Our day-to-day stock changes with the foods available in the season, so check back often.

How much fish or seafood should I buy?

WE RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING:

    Whole Fish - 3/4 to 1 lbs of raw fish per person.

    Fillets and Steaks - 8-10 ounces raw weight per person.

    Seafood - 8-10 ounces per person.

    Cooked Mussels and Clams - 3-6 pieces for appetizer or 8-12 pieces as main course.

    Raw Oysters and Clams - 6 or 12 pieces as an appetizer.

    Shrimp - 4-6 ounces of shrimp for an appetizer or 8-10 ounces for an entrée.

What is a Fisherman’s Request item?

Availability of some seafood is based on the daily catch. We call these Fisherman’s Request items. If a selection in your bag is not available when we’re shipping your order, you have options. We can replace it (only if a comparable item is available) or we can contact you via text or email a day before your delivery date.
